Context & Scope

Worked on the mechanical design of deployable systems intended for compact stowage and reliable actuation in outdoor applications, with emphasis on synchronized motion, aesthetics, and manufacturable assemblies.

Technical Contributions

  • Conceptualized deployable mechanism architectures and translated them into detailed CAD models using SolidWorks, focusing on compact packaging and controlled deployment.

  • Designed synchronized multi-link deployment using planetary gear arrangements and custom cam–slot linkages to ensure repeatable motion across multiple components.

  • Conducted kinematic motion studies to validate deployment sequencing, interference-free operation, and robustness to manufacturing tolerances.

  • Evaluated design alternatives based on reliability, assembly complexity, and suitability for high-cycle outdoor use.

Key Engineering Considerations

Synchronization tolerance between moving elements, backlash sensitivity in gear trains, and long-term wear at cam–slot interfaces were critical factors guiding design decisions.
